Hot Trot 5K logoIf you have spent some time along the Alabama Gulf Coast in the summer months you know that it gets warm.  That hasn’t stopped the good people over at the Robertsdale Rotary Club, however.  They decided to not only accept the fact that mid-June means close of triple digit temperatures, they decided to embrace it and hold a 5K race.

The Hot Trot 5K for ARC, held on June 18th this year, has become famous for bringing people together for a common cause: to raise money for The ARC, and to sweat….a lot.

The Hot Trot 5K starts and finishes at LuLu’s at Homeport Marina, which means the post-race [Read more...]

“I don’t want to leave the Hangout” yelled Grace Potter of “Grace Potter and the Nocturnals,” halfway through the band’s Friday afternoon set. “I want to stay here forever with all you beautiful people.”

Potter’s quote pretty much sums up the feelings of both the musicians and participants of this year’s Hangout Music Fest. Boasting sold-out ticket sales (35,000 tickets) and practically sold out room accommodations from Fort Morgan to Orange Beach, nobody can claim the event was not a success.

The weekend festivities began Thursday evening at the pre-party, open to those who opted for the extra night’s ticket, giving those in attendance a sneak peak of what was to come. Friday, the opening day of the festival, could have been described as hectic but fun, with thousands of people excitedly waiting outside the gate to exchange their paper tickets for the 3-day wristband before the festival’s 1 pm start time.

“The priority is the fan experience,” Shaul Zislin, the festival’s founder, told a Press-Register [Read more...]

GULF SHORES, Alabama – 500 people lined an enormous table in front of the beach pavilion at the Gulf State Park.  This invite-only dinner marking the approaching anniversary of the April 20, 2010, Gulf Coast Oil Spill and was a celebration of recovery.

“Supper on the Sand: A Celebration of the Gulf” featured a menu inspired by the farm-to-table concept showcasing Gulf Seafood and local produce. Guy Fieri, host of NBC’s “Minute to Win It” and Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins & Dives” as well as “Guy’s Big Bite”, served as the event’s special guest host. Alabama Governor Robert Bentley, Congressman Jo Bonner and several other elected officials attended the event in support of the Gulf’s comeback.

In the sand, just south of the Gulf State Park Pavilion, a 175-yard-long, white-clothed table stood parallel to the water. The menu included gumbo, oysters, royal red shrimp and crab claws — seafood straight from the Gulf of Mexico. (Click here for the menu)
