The Third Annual “Bald Eagle Bash” – June 2nd at the Weeks Bay Resource Center

In 1967, the Bald Eagle was placed on the endangered species list in an effort to re-build the population and keep our nation’s most iconic flying species around for generations of American’s to come. For thirty years, the education regarding conservation grew into a nationwide effort to help unify environmental efforts and bring back the Bald Eagle to fruition. Happily, in 2007, the eagle was removed from the endangered list and can once again be seen flying around Baldwin County!

Successful conservation efforts such as this are what spurned the birth of the “Bald Eagle Bash,” a fundraiser to benefit the Weeks Bay Foundation and Weeks Bay Reserve, hosted annually in Fairhope. Being held on Saturday, June 2nd at the Weeks Bay Resource Center at the Fish River Bridge from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., the 2012 event is sure to be one of the highlights of the local Baldwin County foundation’s fundraising season.  The only nationally accredited land trust in coastal Alabama; the Weeks Bay Foundation’s goal is to “protect the natural resources of coastal Alabama while supporting the goals and programs of the Reserve.”

The Weeks Bay Reserve is a living laboratory created for long term estuarine research and is part of a nationwide network of similar establishments.  Events such as the “Bald Eagle Bash,” help to directly fund such conservation programs and aid in the education of our local wetlands and estuaries’ importance.

Tickets to the Third Annual “Bald Eagle Bash” are available for $30 in advance or $35 at the gate and can be purchased by visiting www.BaldEagleBash.com.  Featuring delicious coastal cuisine from local favorites such as LuLu’s at Homeport marina, The Tin Top Restaurant and Oyster Bar, Cobalt The Restaurant and many others, guests will be able to feast on the best food in Baldwin County.  Live music will be provided by The Locust Fork Band while 95KSJ’s Shelby Mitchell and NBC15’s Darwin Singleton will be emceeing the event.
