Jay will be in town with his wife, country music star, Sara Evans, and their 7 children.
Jay and Sara will be joined by 27 year radio vet and Opening Drive Co-Host Tony Kurre along with his wife and children.
Sports fans and everyone who loves the Alabama Gulf Coast can tune in on June 23rd for a remote broadcast. Not only will the show be carried on WJOX, but on all 34 markets that carry the Paul Finebaum show (including XM and Sirus). The remote broadcast is taking place at Lulu’s from 4-6 p.m.
During the program, Jay will talk about the daily beach conditions, beach recovery efforts and all the great things we love about living and vacationing in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

Jay’s exploits as the University of Alabama’s starting quarterback are well known. He led the team to an Alabama best 35-2-1 (.934) record, including three 10-win seasons, three SEC West titles and the 1992 National Championship. His senior year in 1994 saw him win the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and finish 5th in the Heisman Trophy balloting.
While at Alabama, Jay was a leader of the FCA chapter, and became a role model for the school and his state due to his stand for leadership and integrity.
Jay was drafted in the 5th Round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers and played professional football for seven years, finishing his career in 2001 with a return home to play for the XFL’s Birmingham Thunderbolts.
Jay began his Birmingham radio career with WYDE in August of 2001, where a successful stint led to a move to WJOX in 2002. Jay has been a fixture on the station’s morning show ever since. In 2006, he was joined by Al DelGreco and Tony Kurre, and the show became known as The Opening Drive. The rest is history.
Jay married country singer-songwriter Sara Evans in 2008. The couple have seven children, all from previous relationships.
Jay is the author of the University of Alabama Football Vault: The Story of the Crimson Tide, 1892-2007. It is available at Amazon.com and bookstores everywhere. His story In Due Time, written with Wayne Atchison, sold over 70,000 copies after its release in 1995.
