It’s true! The month of December offers up great activities and events in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, AL. Start things off with the 3 Doors Down concert at the Wharf on Thursday, Dec. 4. Tickets are still available through Ticketmaster and the Wharf box office. Also scheduled for Dec. 4 is the 28th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Open House in Gulf Shores. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Erie Meyer Civic Center with refreshments and entertainment to follow at the Civic Center, Museum, Libraray and the David L. Bodenhamer Recreation Center. The theme for this year’s event is “The Twelve Days Before Christmas.”
Saturday, Dec. 6 will be a great day for University of Alabama football fans as the Crimson Tide takes on the Florida Gators in Atlanta for the SEC Championshiop and a spot in the BCS National Championship game.
Want to experience a Civil War era Christmas? As a living history weekend for the whole family, enjoy the 24th Annual Christmas at the Fort. Come and join the “confederate garrison” and see what a non-commercialized Christmas was like in 1861. Scheduled for 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and admission is $5 for 13 years and up, $2.50 for 5-12 year olds and free for children under 4.
The 16th Annual Symphony by the Sea comes to Point Clear, AL at the Marriot Grand Hotel. Admission for the silent auction, concert, coctail party and dinner. The Louisiana Philharmonic returns again this year for what should be a memorable evening. Tickets are available at Kaiser Realty and the Baldwin County United Way.
After Christmas festivities conclude, it is time to ring in the new year! Finishing off the month of December is The Wharf’s 3rd Annual New Year’s Eve “Block Party Blowout.” Beginning at 5:00 p.m. and continuing until about 12:30 a.m., this annual event has become a tradition for many along the Alabama Gulf Coast, offering something for the whole family to enjoy. Free to the public, the annual “Block Party Blowout” offers festive decorations, holiday lighting and an incredible fireworks display at the stroke of midnight. The Wharf’s restaurants and retailers will be open for your enjoyment.
